This Black History Month, we honor the trailblazers who have helped shape the City of Lawrence: 🗳️ Sherron Freeman – First African American elected to the Common Council 📜 Leatrice Adkisson – First African American Clerk of the City of Lawrence 🏛️ Mayor Deb Whitfield – First African American Mayor in Marion County history Their stories—along with those of other inspiring community leaders—remind us of the power of diversity, representation, and progress.
