Lawrence Neighborhood
Lawrence Neighborhood
Lanesville
Lanesville, the oldest part of Lawrence, offers a unique blend of history and community spirit. Originally named after a prominent resident and located near the Bee Line Railroad and Pendleton Pike, the area was renamed Lawrence in 1866. By the early 1900s, Lawrence had grown into a thriving trading center with around 150 residents, thanks to its strategic location. In 1903, the federal government established Fort Benjamin Harrison on 2,000 acres north of the town, further shaping the area's development. Lanesville continues to combine its rich history with a vibrant community spirit, offering a unique living experience in Lawrence.
Lanesville offers a unique blend of historical charm and vibrant community spirit. The area has grown over time, adapting to its modern surroundings with the development of nearby I-465 and US 36. Despite its industrial shift, Lanesville retains a strong sense of community, with local landmarks like Lawrence Central High School, Explorer Park, and beloved businesses such as Matthews Bicycles and Heidelberg Restaurant. The neighborhood combines rich history with contemporary energy, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both longtime residents and newcomers.
