New Administration Building Coming to MSD of Lawrence Township
August 30, 2023
Next month, MSD of Lawrence Township will break ground on a new, $20M Administration Building!
Join us September 8, 2023 at 10 AM, at the groundbreaking site on historic Fort Benjamin Harrison, immediately west of Civic Plaza (5710 Lawrence Village Parkway).
Project completion is anticipated for early 2025. The current administration building, named the Lawrence Education & Community Center (LECC), housed at 6501 Sunnyside Road, is a facility built in 1970 as Craig Middle School. The school closed in 2010.
The Fort Harrison Re-Use Authority donated the land for the new facility to the school corporation in 2023. The facility will house the district’s business operations and executive offices. The Sunnyside site will continue to house Lawrence Advance Academy, several alternative and special needs programs, and will be the home of the future Craig Academy.
“We are excited to move our business operations to a more central location within the school district thanks to the Fort Harrison Re-Use Authority and the City of Lawrence,” shares superintendent, Dr. Shawn A. Smith. “This new construction is an important part of the redevelopment of Fort Benjamin Harrison, and we are honored to support the community.”
This new construction will occur with no increased taxation of district homeowners and will be financed using bond money. The new LECC facility is not part of the ten 2019 referendum-funded capital projects.
