Freije Engineered Solutions Co. selects Lawrence Trades District for new home

Lawrence, IN – Mayor Steve Collier announced the formal completion of an agreement between Freije Engineered Solutions Company and the City of Lawrence as the growing Indiana contracting firm will bring more than 150 employees and establish its headquarters at 7600 Pendleton Pike in the Lawrence Trades District in the coming months.

“We’re very pleased to announce the great news that Freije Engineered Solutions Company will join the Trades District,” said Collier. “This Indiana company has over 50 years of experience meeting its clients’ needs, and its expertise has grown to include many other direct services to its customers. We welcome Freije Engineered Solutions Company and its employees to our community,” he said.

Freije’s design/build/service mechanical, electrical, and plumbing company, originally founded in 1959, will make a capital investment of more than four million dollars in the Lawrence Trades District. Its new headquarters will feature office space, warehouse space and an in-house training center. Construction will begin in late 2019, and officials hope to occupy the new headquarters by Fall, 2020.

Lawrence Trades District planning and implementation began in 2016 under the leadership of Redevelopment & Economic Development Director Cam Starnes and the city’s Redevelopment Commission (RDC) as an effort to attract investment and increase employment options in the skilled trades and make Lawrence a true hub for the trades in Central Indiana. The RDC will contribute the land for the Freije facility, formerly home to a gas station, an auto service garage and a Knight’s Inn. Freije will join Mission Mechanical, Midwest Remediation, and Amerifence as key anchors of the Trades District.

RDC President David Blount said the Trades District offers an excellent location and a supportive community, fostering the myriad co-location benefits which have helped technology districts thrive and applying them to assist trades companies. He said Freije offers community support to many organizations, including the Million Meal Movement, Habitat for Humanity, the American Diabetes Association, Families First Indiana, Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation of Indiana, and many others, and that the RDC is excited to attract such a positive, engaged corporate citizen to Lawrence.
