INDOT Raised Medians On Pendleton Pike

August 9, 2024

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is working on a project to enhance safety and connectivity along Pendleton Pike (U.S. 36 / State Road 67). This five-mile stretch, from I-465 to 65th Street, has seen more crashes than the state average, so they are taking action to make it safer for everyone.

What's Changing?

- Raised Medians: Sections of the center turn lane will be replaced with raised concrete medians.
- New Turn Procedures: To make a left turn, drivers will use nearby intersections or make a legal U-turn.
- Signal Assistance: Green arrows will guide left-turning traffic, or you can yield and wait for a safe gap.
- Pedestrian Upgrades: They are filling in missing sidewalk sections near 56th Street and improving curb ramps for better access to local businesses.
- When? Construction is underway and will continue for up to two years.
