Mayor Collier presents his 2018 State of the City address

March 8, 2018

Mayor Steve Collier addressed more than 260 citizens at the Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce breakfast this morning at The Garrison. Sponsored by Gregory & Appel Insurance, the annual State of the City address began at 8:30 a.m. after a buffet breakfast.

In addition to members of his administration, Collier thanked City Clerk Kathy Walton, City Council Member Mike McQuillen, Common Council President Lisa Chavis, Councilors Sherron Freeman, Tom Shevlot and Bob Jones for attending the gathering.

In his speech, the mayor cited the progress and good work of the City’s employees; from sound fiscal management by the controller to outstanding service by public safety officers to awards and recognitions for several departments to improvements by each department.

Mayor Collier said the improved financial status of the City has put Lawrence in a position to make capital improvements and progress. He said the new Police Headquarters on Post Road will be a significant first step in capital projects for the City. After years without these investments, he is pleased to initiate this development.

He also cited diversity of the City as one of its strengths to celebrate and recognize. Mayor Collier said he is encouraged each day by the new standard of growth in Lawrence and invited the audience and all residents to join with him to commit to higher expectations and greater efforts to grow their businesses. “We are a great city, with great schools and great people. Together, let’s take that next step,” he said in closing.
