Priority Waste Update From Lawrence DPW
July 11, 2024
Dear Residents,
We are pleased to announce that Priority Waste, our new waste collection contractor, has commenced service. Priority was selected based on their innovative and efficient waste management solutions, ensuring our community remains clean and environmentally friendly.
To ensure a smooth and effective transition to this new service, we need your cooperation in following these guidelines for trash totes collection:
1. Placement of Trash Toters:
Curbside Placement: Place your trash toters at the curb by 6:00 AM on your designated collection day. Toters should be positioned with the handles facing your residence
Proper Spacing: Ensure there is at least three feet of space between your trash toter and any other objects (e.g., mailboxes, vehicles, trees). This allows the collection trucks to operate efficiently.
Visibility: Do not place toters behind parked cars or other obstructions. Toters should be easily visible and accessible from the street.
Additional Toter(s): Additional Toters are available through the City of Lawrence. Please visit our website https://www.cityoflawrence.org/
2. Acceptable Materials:
Household Waste & Yard Waste: Only regular household waste or yard waste should be placed in the trash toters. Ensure all waste is bagged and securely tightened to prevent spillage and litter when collection occurs.
Non-Acceptable Items: Do not place hazardous materials, electronics, or construction debris in trash toters. Separate arrangements must be made for these items.
Recycling Toters: Recycle toters are for recycling only. No compost, yard waste, furniture, household waste, or toxic materials (e.g., paints, chemicals, etc.) are permitted in totters. Contaminated recycling totters will not be serviced.
3. Toter Maintenance:
Cleanliness: Regularly clean your trash toters to prevent odors and pests.
Lid Closure: Ensure the lid of your toter is fully closed to prevent waste from spilling out and to deter animals.
4. Collection Schedule:
Collection Days: Familiarize yourself with your collection day. If you are unsure of your schedule, please refer to the DPW website or contact our office at (317) 545-8787. If you are unsure, Priority Waste would be happy to chat with you regarding your collection date(s). They can be reached at Priority Waste on 1 (855) 927-8365.
Holiday Schedule: Please note, collection days may shift during holiday weeks. Updated schedules will be communicated via the city website and social media. Priority Waste recognizes the following six (6) holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
*If these holidays fall during the week of regular trash pickup, residents will have their service delayed by one day.
Bulk Trash Collection: Please contact Priority Waste directly online at Scheduling Bulk at Prioritywate.com—under the services tab, select municipalities and search for the City of Lawrence.
5. Reporting Issues:
Missed Collections: If your trash toter is not collected by the end of the day, please report it to Priority’s customer service at Priority Waste at 1 (855) 927-8365 or contact the City of Lawrence Department of Public work (DPW) at (317) 545-8787.
Damaged Toters: If your toter is damaged, please report it for repair or replacement.
Overage Tags: Overage tags for yard waste, and trash bags that do not fit in the toters, are available at the Department of Public Works office located at 9001 East 59th Street, Suite 205. Lawrence, IN 46216
Lastly, your partnership and cooperation are vital in maintaining the cleanliness and health of our community. By adhering to these guidelines, you help ensure that Priority Waste can provide the best possible service. For more information or if you have any questions, please visit the DPW website or contact our office directly.
Thank you for your attention and commitment to keeping Lawrence clean and green.
Sincerely,
Christopher A. Wilburn, J.D.
Director of Public Works
