Flag Day 2024
June 14, 2024

249 years ago today, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed, the U.S. Army was born. Exactly two years later, on June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as our United States flag.
It’s fitting that these two moments in our nation’s history share an anniversary date, as the latter event could never have happened without the first.
It gave special meaning to our celebration of Flag Day this morning, as members of the AmericanLegion raised Old Glory at the City of Lawrence Government Center on the grounds of the former Fort Harrison U.S. Army base.
Today and every day, we honor not just our flag, but all those who have fought and died for what our flag represents: liberty and justice for all!
