On Saturday, April 22nd, LPD hosted the annual Crime Stoppers of central Indiana spring Community Shred-It & Electronics Recycling Day event, in recognition of global Earth Day.
From 10am-1pm at the Belzer Middle School parking lot, 375 vehicles visited our location to safely dispose of sensitive documents for shredding, electronic items for environmentally friendly recycling/disposal, and took in 160 lbs of unneeded prescription medications (as a part of the US Drug Enforcement Administration’s annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day), that otherwise would have likely found their way into the water supply.
LPD hosts this event annually.
“We’re ever so grateful for all of our volunteers who work with us supporting this event,” said LPD Chief Gary Woodruff. “We always appreciate the participation of the Marion County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) who assists with traffic control, along with volunteers from LPD, AES Indiana, Crime Stoppers of central Indiana, the Indiana Attorney General’s Office, and the fantastic students of the Lawrence Central High School National Honor Society, who also volunteered to assist with this event!”
“These events don’t happen without all of the volunteers who work with us,” concluded Chief Woodruff.
