What is something that your parents passed down to you that you hope to pass on to your kids?

"When I think about a few things my parents impressed upon me, it was being a Christian man, learning financial literacy, the importance of philanthropy, and an appreciation of African American Art. These are all topics that were taught early on in our household."

Why Is it important to celebrate Black History Month?

"It is important to celebrate black history, period. Black history is American history; however, it’s not the history that’s traditionally learned in schools. Black Americans have played major roles in the formation of our government, innovation in science and technology, and the American culture today. Black history is too often glossed over because of the mistreatment of our ancestors."

What is been your greatest accomplishment?

"Professionally, I’ve been blessed to own my own business that successfully employs hundreds of individuals. At Vertical, we’re able to help our seniors age comfortably and safely in their homes. Meeting their needs is an honor. Knowing the decisions I make positively impact my family and community is truly fulfilling.

Personally, being a proud parent to two LN high school students. One of which is about to graduate and go to college and the other who is sophomore, and well on his way with a GPA greater than 4.0."

Are there any words of advice you have for African-Americans?

"In my experience, what makes the difference in the situations to change one’s circumstances education has to be a key factor in the scenario. To be on a continual pursuit, to better yourself and the lives of your family. Whether that is college, learning a trade, or obtaining job specific certifications. Also placing a high priority on money management. Managing your credit, knowing how and when to buy a home, entrepreneurism and how to borrow money. All of these things will help strengthen our communities and progress our race forward.
