Financial Analyst

Summary

The Financial Analyst shall analyze past and current financial performance to advise the city on its financial strategy.  This position shall report directly to the City Controller/Utility Chief Financial Officer (CFO). They will also be expected to work closely with the City Controller/Utility CFO to ensure completion of the Annual Financial Report

 

 

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Shall assist the City Controller/Utility CFO and lead revenue collections throughout multiple departments
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliation according to utility/city policy
  • Develop financial plans and reports for department heads and managers
  • Analyze industry trends and makes recommendations based on those trends
  • Evaluate capital expenditures and depreciation
  • Develop automated reporting and forecasting tools for more efficient use of data
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Coordination of Work - Ability to plan and organize a daily work routine and establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management.
  • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Education and Experience

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 1 – 3 years of professional experience as a financial analyst, accountant or auditor.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certificate preferred, not required.
  • Principles and practices of fiscal management; working knowledge of fund accounting
  • Modern office technology

Additional Requirements

An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. This position requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation to include substance abuse testing and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
