City of Lawrence Finishes Year Under Budget

CITY OF LAWRENCE FINISHES 2024 9% UNDER COUNCIL BUDGET                      

LAWRENCE, IN – Mayor Deb Whitfield of the City of Lawrence has released the City’s Budget versus Actual Spending Comparison, highlighting a significant positive balance in the City’s finances. The December 31, 2024, comparison shows that the City retained a healthy $6,201,570 in unspent funds from the previous year’s budget. She noted that the opening balance for 2024 was $68,990,072.56, while the closing balance was $74,995,643.05.

“I am very pleased to share this positive news about Lawrence’s fiscal health with our resident taxpayers,” stated the Mayor. “Closing last year under budget is a significant achievement. As we continue to refine our fiscal management skills, my administration looks forward to delivering positive results for the fiscal year ending in 2025,” she added. 

The Mayor emphasized that the Indiana State Board of Accounts Audit for 2023 highlighted opportunities to enhance internal controls within the Controller’s Office. Whitfield mentioned that her administration has addressed the identified issues, and at her request, the City’s Board of Works has officially adopted a Procurement Policy for federal grants.

 “Sound fiscal policy is the highest priority for our Administration,” Mayor Whitfield concluded.
