Maintenance Worker (Custodian)

Summary

General Statement of Responsibilities

•The City of Lawrence is seeking  two part-time Maintenace Worker (Custodians) to maintain cleanliness and orderliness within the designated areas of our facilities. This role ensures that all cleaning and light maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards, contributing to a safe and pleasant environment for employees and visitors.  Candidate must be task-oriented, self-motivated, dependable, and able to work effectively and safely.

•Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.

•Flexibility to work during non-standard hours or weekends, if necessary, to accommodate special cleaning needs or events.

•Willingness to learn and adapt to new cleaning techniques, equipment, and procedures.

 

Essential Job Functions

•Clean and maintain assigned areas, including offices, conference rooms, restrooms, elevators, and common areas.

•Perform general custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, disinfecting, vacuuming, window cleaning.

•Empty trash receptacles and replace liners.

•Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, mirrors, flooring, sinks, fixtures and replenish supplies.

•Assist with occasional special cleaning projects, such as deep cleaning or post-construction cleanup, as assigned.

•Follow established procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

•Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.

•Adhere to safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

•Computer Skills - Utilization of modern office technology, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, and related software with reasonable speed and accuracy, as it is related to the position. 

•Communication - Excellent ability to listen and understand information presented verbally and in writing.  Ability to handle a variety of issues with tact and diplomacy and in a confidential manner.

•Coordination of Work - Ability to plan and organize a daily work routine and establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management.

 

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

•Physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive tasks, including lifting and bending, as required.

•Work environment traditional office space and restrooms.

 

Education and Experience

•High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

•One to three years of experience in cleaning or janitorial services.

 

Additional Requirements

Requires a background investigation to include a local, state, and federal criminal history check, sex offender registry, and consumer report.
