"This kid in class saw my body hair and said I looked like a monkey because I have too much body hair."
September 13, 2022
Allison I.
My arm hair – I have noticed its very common in Hispanic people. It’s one of our features. About a week ago during class we were playing UNO, and this kid in class saw my body hair and said I looked like a monkey because I have too much body hair. I was so shocked. I couldn’t believe it. Did this kid just call me a monkey? I didn’t let it get to me because my body hair doesn’t bother me. I have asked my mom if I should shave my arms and she said, “No. Why? It's part of you, and you are beautiful”. To all my fellow Latinas and Latinos who have been shamed for your fuzzy arms and body hair, I just want to say, don’t let any of those things get you, body hair beautiful. Embrace all parts of your body, and never let anyone make you feel ashamed.
