Tony Dowd

Chief Dowd became an EMT in 1993 and became an Advanced EMT in 1994. Tony took his paramedic training at IU/Bloomington and graduated in 1995. He joined LFD in August 1995 and completed his Public Safety Diver certification in 1998 from Dive Rescue International. Since 2012, he has been the Primary Instructor for the City of Lawrence Fire Department EMS Division. He holds certifications in Swift Water Rescue, Confined Space Technician, Fire Instructor and CPR Instructor.

Tony was promoted to Lieutenant in October 2001 and to Captain in 2010. in 2016, he was promoted to Division Chief of EMS, and in 2024, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Administration.

Tony and his wife of 34 years, Andrea, enjoy being with their 2 sons during their down time.
