LPD honors Brian Sharp for outstanding work
February 8, 2017
After reviewing nominations from each of the three shift commanders, Operations Captain Tim Steele selected Officer Brian Sharp as the recipient of LPD’s 2016 Officer of the Year recognition award.
Officer Sharp’s supervisors and co-workers said Officer Sharp reports for daily duty with the goal of working hard to make good arrests. Officer Sharp contributed to public safety in several instances during 2016 by quickly recalling details of wanted persons, suspect descriptions, and suspect vehicle information, sharing this information with fellow officers. He self-initiates patrol activity without assistance, regardless of where the crime occurred.
In 2016, Officer Sharp completed 111 police reports, 38 accident reports, made 32 felony arrests, 63 misdemeanor/summons arrests, issued 176 UTT’s, and 63 Warnings. He responded to 848 Assist/No Report runs.
Officer Sharp's interest in law enforcement began at the age of 14 when he joined the Lawrence PD Explorer Post, where he was a member for seven years. During that time, he decided he wanted to dedicate himself to serving the citizens of Lawrence. He later became an adult advisor for the Explorer program for another seven years. In 2000, he became a reserve officer for the LPD, serving five years. In 2005, Brian achieved his career goal and was sworn in as a merit police officer for LPD. He is currently assigned to day shift, and is a member of the Mobile Field Force and District 5 Emergency Response Group.
