Use fireworks safely and within City ordinances this holiday weekend

LFD Chief Dino Batalis reminds all citizens and guests in Lawrence to use caution as they enjoy fireworks at home and in their communities during the holiday weekend. Please see the local ordinances which govern use of fireworks and the timeframe they may be used in the coming days:
§3-4-5-3. CONSUMER FIREWORKS ; TIMES OF USE.
(A) Consumer fireworks , as defined by I.C. 22-11-14-1, may be used within the corporate limits of the City of Lawrence only between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and two hours after sunset on June 29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3, July 5, July 6, July 7, July 8, and July 9; between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight on July 4; and between the hours of 10:00 a.m. on December 31 and 1:00 a.m. on January 1. The use of consumer fireworks within the corporate limits of the City of Lawrence is prohibited at all other times.
(B) Violation of the provisions of this section shall be subject to a fine of up to $100 for a first offense and up to $250 for a second or subsequent offense.

§ 3-4-5-4. CONSUMER FIREWORKS; PLACES OF USE.
§ 3-4-5-4. CONSUMER FIREWORKS ; PLACES OF USE.
(A) Consumer fireworks , as defined by I.C. 22-11-14-1, may be used within the corporate limits of the City of Lawrence only on the property of the user, on the property of another who has given permission to use the consumer fireworks or at a special discharge location as set forth in I.C. 22-11-14-3.5. Consumer fireworks may not be used on or where, upon their use, they will or are capable of reaching any public property or shared common areas, including but not limited to municipal or other public parks, common or shared areas pertaining to residence subdivisions or other residential areas and streets, roads or any other public rights-of-way.
(B) This section may be enforced by any police or law enforcement officers or personnel, including the Fire marshal and deputy fire marshal officers and personnel. Violation of the provisions of this section shall be subject to a fine of up to $100 for a first offense and up to $250 for a second or subsequent offense.
