Juneteenth Jubilee Line Up
June 17, 2022
Juneteenth Jubilee is a FREE community festival featuring musicians, dancers, singers, actors, and visual artists from across Indianapolis, with food trucks, vendors, kids' activities, and fun for the entire community.
Performers:
- Teresa Reynolds and the Slicktones, an Indianapolis-based band formed in 2021 with eclectic roots in pop R&B, jazz, and electronica.
- iibada Dance Company, a Children's African and Modern Dance performance company founded in 1989.
- Freetown Village Singers preserve African American traditions and culture through storytelling and song, the Freetown Village Singers present an interactive collection of traditional folk songs and spirituals.
- Joshua Thompson (Sock Joplin), is a pianist, social musicologist, teaching artist, and producer. Known onstage as Sock Joplin, he is increasingly recognized on a national scale for his expertise on classical composers of African descent.
- The Lewis Sisters present historical interpretations of influential women from Black History: Betty Shabazz, Fannie Lou Hammer, and Ida B. Wells.
- The Organ-nizers, made up of a saxophonist, B3 man, and drummer, the Organ-nizers burst through the sound waves with a new electrifying sound. One very astounding feature of this three-man organ-centric group is their ability to present smooth R&B and funk sounds in an improv jazzy way.
