Firefighters win Just Wingin' It title at Community Safety Day

The Lawrence Fire Department won the 2017 Just Wingin' It with Our First Responders chicken wing eating contest today. The fundraiser pits the police v. the firefighters to determine which squad can consume 50 spicy BW3 chicken wings first.

Proceeds for the event go to the Susan Jordan Legacy Fund at the Lawrence Township School Foundation. Emcee Ray Cox promised an exciting match between the public safety officers. Cox was right, as LPD wanted to repeat as champions and LFD was determined to win their first title. The firefighters took an early lead with the first round and never turned back.

Batalis said, "There's no losers here today, this is a winning team of public safety officers, all working together to benefit the school foundation. Great job to Chief Hofmann and his team, and what can I say? I'm really proud of our LFD team!" Batalis will proudly display the plaque in LFD headquarters until next year's competition.
