WARNING: Sewage spill in the Dry Branch Creek
June 5, 2020

Lawrence Utilities detected a sewage spill in the Dry Branch Creek June 5, 2020 about 12:30 in the afternoon. Upon investigation, we learned that the McCordsville Sewage Treatment Plant experienced a failure and had discharged sewage into the creek. The total volume of the discharge is not known. The affected creek is delineated on the attached map. Residents should be aware, and it is also plainly visible, that the creek is not suitable for play or recreation. By approximately 1:00 pm the plume of sewage contaminated water had reached to Oaklandon Road and beyond.
Neither people nor pets should enter the creek until such time as the sewage plume has dissipated. At this time we have no further information from McCordsville, but do know that the Indiana Department of Environmental Management is aware and working the spill event with the Town of McCordsville. Any additional updates provided to the City of Lawrence will be posted via social media.
